Advantages of SATA
Compared with parallel ATA, SATA has relatively large advantages. Serial ATA only transmits 1 bit of data at a time, which reduces the number of pins on the SATA interface, reduces the number of connecting cables, and improves efficiency. At the same time, such an architecture can also reduce system energy consumption and system complexity. Secondly, Serial ATA has a higher starting point and greater development potential. The data transfer rate defined by Serial ATA 1.0 can reach 150MB/sec, which is higher than the current fastest parallel ATA (that is, ATA/133) can reach 133MB/sec. The data transfer rate is still high, and the data transfer rate of Serial ATA 2.0 that has been released will reach 300MB/sec, and eventually Serial ATA 3.0 will achieve the highest data transfer rate of 600MB/sec.
Serial ATA has many advantages over parallel ATA, and will become a cheap alternative to parallel ATA. And the transition from parallel ATA to Serial ATA is also the general trend, it should be just a matter of time. Relevant manufacturers are also vigorously promoting SATA interfaces. For example, Intel’s ICH6 series south bridge chips have increased from 2 to 4 SATA interfaces compared to ICH5 series south bridge chips, while the parallel ATA interface has been reduced from 2 to 1. It is worth noting that, whether it is SATA or SATA II, it has little effect on the performance of the hard disk. Because the bottleneck of the current hard disk performance is concentrated on the internal hard disk data transfer rate determined by the internal mechanical mechanism of the hard disk, the hard disk storage technology, and the disk speed, even the current top-level 15,000-rpm SCSI hard disk has an internal data transfer rate of only 80MB/ About sec, not to mention the ordinary 7200 RPM desktop hard drive. Unless the data recording technology of the hard disk has undergone revolutionary changes, such as the vertical recording technology, etc., the current internal data transfer rate of the hard disk is difficult to get a dramatic improvement. To put it bluntly, the current hard drives using ATA 100 are completely sufficient. The reason for using more advanced interface technology is to obtain a higher burst transmission rate, support more features, more convenient and easy to use, and It has more development potential.
